ABOUT PACIFIC NORTHWEST ARTIST TANYA STEWART

Moments I’ve lived in the places I’ve loved.

There’s something that’s really novel—fresh, exciting and a little romantic, even—about parts of the natural world that are untouched by humankind; pockets of nature that haven’t been spoiled, that house amazing ecosystems and incredible sights.

In this fast-changing world, spaces like this are being eradicated—and with them, their magic.

Coeur d’Alene artist Tanya Stewart’s goal is to make the beauty of those places last for lifetimes—and allow the impact of nature to transform the feeling of personal and communal spaces.

To infuse the feeling of calm that comes from listening to waves, seeing the mist of low clouds in the forest or being mesmerized by mountains in a landscape vista. To transport herself back to those places and moments that stopped her heart, and bring them alive.

And in turn, bring us all back into connection with and celebration of the natural world; into appreciation for its beauty, and into consideration for how we can each be stewards for the land—keeping it alive beyond the images, art and memories we have and hold onto.

Who is pacific northwest and west coast artist
Tanya Stewart?

By self-diagnosis, Tanya Stewart is afflicted by biophilia (the human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature: a desire or tendency to commune with nature). It’s what drew this oil painter and photographer to Canada’s West Coast from Ontario back in 2006, and what inspired the nature-infused lifestyle she’s lived since, and the travels taking her into international communities and environments. Now living as an artist in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Tanya Stewart continues to enjoy the Pacific Northwest lifestyle.

From the Pacific Northwest to every other corner of the world, this Coeur d’Alene artist and wanderluster is constantly seeking out ways to learn about, understand and experience new cultures, and thoughtfully explore new corners of the natural world.

A globe-trotting biophile, at your service.

In contrast to a longtime love affair with the natural world, Tanya’s artistic journey—a later-in-life pathway that’s still unfolding—can be summed up by our friend Picasso:

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once (s)he grows up.”

Growing up in an incredibly artistic family—a grandmother with an incredible ease in working paints (and love of Bob Ross); a dad who could sketch anyone when handed a pencil; an uncle who showed his work professionally (and bought Tanya her first set of art supplies)—she took a different route into the business realm and in her spare—and fleeting—moments pursued her passion for travel and art.

In early 2020, as the world slowly ground to a halt, a few artists—whose work Tanya coveted— started teaching online. With less professional travel in the books and more time on her hands, she decided to sign up for their sessions and pick up the paints again...and found herself in flow. What that sparked was more study, studentship, practice and a reconnection to the curious, creative child within (who, it turns out, was really ready to be unleashed).

Continuing the pursuit of self-discovery and self-education with new mediums (ohhhh the buttery-smooth experience of spreading oil paint across a canvas), it’s a pleasure and a privilege for Tanya to let her creativity and awe of nature collide; to bring them together in a celebration of both the world we live in, and the creativity, curiosity and wonder that’s inside us all.

After rediscovering her love for art, Tanya Stewart has been on a mission to memorialize her love for natural landscapes and the amazing places where her adventures take her in the form of stunning oil paintings and photography prints that showcase the mysterious beauty of the West Coast and the Pacific Northwest.

The current mediums? Oil paintings and original nature photography prints. This Canadian landscape artist living in Idaho is inspired to create when something in nature sparks her curiosity; during those stop-in-her-tracks moments that wow her to a point of wanting to capture it forever in an oil painting or photography print.

Each painting and photograph by this former West Coast wanderluster has a story behind it. There is a reason why the natural scenery captured both Tanya’s eye and heart. There is a story behind the travels that brought her there. There was something about the stunning landscape that this photographer and oil painter from the West Coast of Canada wanted to remember forever.

TANYA STEWART ISN’T just an artist, BUT A TRAVELER AND EXPEDITION LEADER.

When Tanya isn’t busy helping people bring the beauty of nature into their homes as a West Coast artist and photographer, she’s probably on an adventure.

Like many Pacific Northwest outdoor enthusiasts, Tanya loves hiking, mountain biking, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and more. From climbing mountains to paddling in the ocean, this adventurer and natural world artist is truly inspired by her stunning surroundings.

Not only does she help people bring the outdoors in, but she helps adventurous souls get out by leading expeditions and intimate travel groups around the world.

With plenty of experience as a solo traveler, Tanya has always been passionate about exploring new places and immersing herself in new cultures. She has traveled to countless countries across several continents and, each time she steps out of her comfort zone and into something different, it feeds her soul.

While traveling solo can be an incredible and even life-changing experience, there is something about sharing those experiences with others that make them memorable

This landscape artist and adventurer’s goal is to bring together like-minded travelers who are interested in exploring other corners of the world with a soul-feeding purpose.

For Tanya, this is something that art, nature, and travel all have in common—that ability to open your eyes and heart to something new and leave you a little more whole than when you arrived.
